Do You Need a Visa?
Most foreign nationals need a visa to enter mainland China. Exceptions include:
- Visa-free transit: 24/72/144-hour visa-free transit in select cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, etc.)
- Visa-free entry: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and several European countries now enjoy 15-day visa-free entry (check latest policy)
- Hainan Province: 30-day visa-free for 59 countries (must arrive directly in Hainan)
For everyone else, you'll need an L Visa (Tourist Visa).
L Visa Requirements
- ✅ Passport valid for 6+ months with 2+ blank pages
- ✅ Completed visa application form (online)
- ✅ Recent passport photo (48mm × 33mm, white background)
- ✅ Round-trip flight bookings (tentative OK)
- ✅ Hotel reservations for your entire stay

- ✅ Bank statements (last 3 months, showing sufficient funds)
How to Apply
Step 1: Fill out the online application at cova.mfa.gov.cn
Step 2: Print and sign the form
Step 3: Submit in person at your nearest Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC)
Step 4: Pay the fee ($140 for US citizens; varies by nationality)
Step 5: Wait 4-10 business days (express service available for extra fee)
