Wangfujing runs north from the eastern side of the Forbidden City, a wide pedestrian avenue flanked by major department stores (including the historic Wangfujing Department Store), international brands, and traditional shops.
Wangfujing Snack Street is the district's culinary heart — dozens of stalls selling everything from candied hawthorn and grilled skewers to the famous (and adventurous) scorpion-on-a-stick. It's the place to taste Beijing's street food.
Wangfujing is home to one of Beijing's best bookstores, with a large English-language section — a pleasant stop for travelers. The surrounding streets also hold traditional shops and tea houses.
The street lies close to the Forbidden City and the Jingshan Park viewpoint. It's also near the National Art Museum of China. Combine your shopping with these sights.
Wangfujing is served by Wangfujing station on metro Line 1, and is within walking distance of Tiananmen. It's easily reached from any central Beijing hotel.
The street is open daily and busiest in the evenings. Bargain at the snack stalls and small shops, but not in the department stores. The snack street is great for tasting, but eat where the food is freshly cooked.
