Yangshuo is the region's adventure and leisure hub. Cycle or drive through the countryside — the Yulong River valley with its bamboo rafts, Moon Hill, and the surrounding rice paddies. The town's West Street buzzes with bars, restaurants, and shops at night.
About 2 hours from Guilin, the Longji terraces climb the mountainsides in sweeping curves. The best times are spring (water-filled, mirror-like) and autumn (golden harvest). Stay overnight in a terrace village for sunrise views.
